Bodo moved in with me and my family temporarily while I was supposed to find him a new host family. After being with us for a few days, we decided that we would just have him finish his program here with us because he was a perfect fit for our family. He has gone through a lot of change since he arrived. He is currently at his fourth school, and he has continued to do wonderfully academically and socially at every place he’s been. He takes the hardest classes his school offers (honors, AP, and dual enrollment college courses) and works very hard to maintain a high GPA.
He also is involved with sports at the school. He played on the football team at the very end of the season and is on the soccer team now. He was chosen for the Best of the West All Tournament team a few weeks ago for his outstanding play during the tournament. His soccer team just won the district championship last week and the regional championship yesterday! They are playing for a spot in the State tournament next!
At home he is very helpful and ready for anything. We have a very rambunctious three-year-old (Cooper), which is a big change for Bodo, who is the youngest of three boys. Bodo has adapted quickly and is great with our son. Cooper calls Bodo his “big brudder” and is always wanting to play with him! Bodo also helps around the house with chores and projects. My husband often travels for work, and Bodo steps right up to help with yard work and any other things I may ask.
On top of all of these things, he is a joy to be around! He is always eager to share with us about his home country, and we are already planning a trip to Germany to meet his family later this year. We are so sad to see him leave in two weeks. He has really become part of our family, and part of our hearts will always be in Germany with him.
