California Peaks & Valleys Culinary Program – 11055
Start Date: May – November in Truckee, then November – May in Palm Springs
Hours: 32-40 hours/week
Compensation: $19.10 per hour (Truckee), $16.00 per hour (Palm Springs)
Housing: $75 per month (Truckee), $600 per month (Palm Springs)
Host Company Description:
Starting in the mountain town of Truckee, participants will serve guests in a ski resort that also features a golf course, equestrian center, and numerous hiking and biking trails. Its on-site restaurant features American comfort food, cocktails, and craft beers. The program will then take exchange visitors to the deserts of California, where they will gain culinary training at a unique and prestigious golf resort owned by the PGA (Professional Golf Association). Participants will learn kitchen, management, and operation skills at a top-tier location.
Position Description:
- Learn all aspects of high-volume food service
- Assist in preparing food for service (e.g., chop vegetables, butcher meat, or prepare sauces)
- Gain regional knowledge of American cuisine, ingredients, and culinary styles
- Assist in preparing menu items under supervision
- Advance management skills and supervisory duties
Applicant Qualifications:
- To apply for the Internship program, applicants must be culinary arts or similar undergraduate/graduate students OR a recent graduates who begin program within 12 months of the graduation date
- To apply for the Trainee program, applicants must hold culinary arts or similar degrees and have least 1 year of professional work experience related to the degree, OR be career professionals of 5 or more years in this field
- Applicants must speak ADVANCED ENGLISH, have a positive attitude and the ability to communicate with clients and hotel associates
