Host Company Description:

The host company is located in Princeton, New Jersey. They deliver innovative, sustainable energy and environmental solutions. They are currently focusing on the development of closed-loop lithium-ion battery recycling technology. This year they are beginning to build up their first production plant to scale-up and automatize recycling production line. The participant’s primary responsibility will be learning product design and development of lithium ion batteries including product specification at the development level.

Applicant Qualifications:

  • To apply for the Internship program, applicants must be a Chemical Engineering or a related degree graduate students OR a be recent graduates who begin program within 12 months of the graduation date
  • To apply for the Trainee program, applicants must hold Chemical Engineering or related degrees and have least 1 year of professional work experience related to the degree, OR be career professionals of 5 or more years of professional experience in this field
  • The ideal candidate will be familiar with the construction and manufacturing processes of lithium-based batteries and have successfully participated in battery design configurations from concept to production
  • At least 3 years of experience in the material/battery industry
  • Prior laboratory research, battery or fuel cell discovery experience preferred
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills

Training Duties Include:

The program participant will help implement the strategy of the product production life cycle: understand the business and product scope, how to build up and mentor the scientist/engineer team, learn comprehensive qualification and validation of the design, make sure the developed battery technology to scale up and transfer to manufacturing teams, work alongside production and quality teams to ensure that scaled up products meet required specifications, and address inadequate product performance if necessary.

  • Learn how to lead a multi-disciplinary project team and drive execution of research strategy
  • Develop and maintain key screening assays
  • Prepare reports, publications and oral presentations after conducting research
  • Write proposal and communicate and maintain the relationship with program managers
  • Product design: from concept to scale up including all ancillary requirements. (i.e. regulatory, testing, etc.)
  • Project management: project conceptualization, execution, management, and reporting
  • Process improvement: Product development system operations, development and characterization of new processes, and improvement of existing process to improve battery performance
  • Design of experiment (DOE) at development level
  • Failure analysis (FMEA), including validation testing, and root cause analysis
